Windstar is a closely held corporation organized in 1978 in Swisher County, Texas. Initial owners were five farmers, Jim Hill, Larry Nelson, Dale Swinburn, Gerald Schulte, and Jon Vars. All are currently owners and directors except Gerald Schulte who died in January 2000. While the company has some outside business interests, its primary business is cotton ginning and is composed of the following divisions or entities:
Tule Creek Gin located 4 miles south of Tulia
Lakeview Gin located 15 miles east of Nazareth
Edcot Gin located in Edmonson
Top of Texas Gin located four miles north of Dawn
Dodd Cotton Gin located 20 miles southwest of Dimmitt
The company has steadily increased volume of ginning since its inception, which vindicates our philosophy : Value added ginning with complete customer satisfaction . The company currently has about 30 stockholders. Twelve cotton producers hold approximately 95% of the stock and key employees hold the balance. A board of seven directors, elected annually by the stockholders, governs the company. Currently these directors are Larry Nelson, Jon Vars, Jim Hill, Dale Swinburn, Billy Sam Borchardt, Brad Hill, and Barry Evans.
